Dedicated to the memory of Violet West

This site is a tribute to Violet. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

My late wife Violet was sadly taken from us on the 11th of July 2020 aged 95, she passed away peacefully at Basingstoke Hospital.

Violet and I met during the war in 1942 at a dance in Strood, Kent where I was doing my Marine training.  I was so smitten that I asked my mum to send me 10 shillings so I could take her to the pictures, our wonderful evening ended with me asking if I could write to her whilst I was away.  Unfortunately, she hadn’t given me her full address and although I tried with much determination, I couldn’t track her down before I was drafted to Rosyth Scotland. To my surprise and happiness there was a letter from Violet waiting for me, it was meant to be, we had found each other again.   After two and a half years of much letter writing from the Far East and a wonderful courtship the rest is history, we married at Hammersmith Town Hall by special license in March 1946.

We had 74 happy years together during which Vi bought 3 wonderful children into the world, she loved them unconditionally in the way only a mum can. Vi wanted to ensure the best life for her family and had a successful career, she enjoyed working and always had fond memories of her different jobs.

She was always smiling and had great stories of her long happy life to tell. As her illness took over she unfortunately forgot some of the later years but, she still continued to smile and remember her childhood days in Aylesham, Kent.
She was a fantastic Mum, Nan, Great Nan and Auntie to many nieces and nephews and will never be forgotten.
